MOKULITO PRINTS

Mokolito printmaking uses plywood in place of a heavy limestone for the creation of lithographic plates. This alternative method of lithography was invented in Japan during the 1970’s, by Seishi Ozaku, in response to various difficulties inherent to traditional lithographic techniques. Small print editions can be created but must be done in one session, adding a fun ‘mad scientist’ aspect to this form of printmaking. Adding woodblock carving techniques to the prepared Mokulito plate has also made this process particularly fascinating.
